Therapeutic Effects of Pivampicillin-Pivmecillinam (Miraxid^(®)) in Urinary Tract In ection

Abstract

|
|
Pivampicilline-Pivmecillinam is a combination of ampicillin pro-drug Pivampicillin and mecillin 1 m prodrug pivmecillinam, thus Pivampicillin-Pivmecillinam is a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against both Grain-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. After oral or parenteral administration ofPivmecillinamPivmecillinam, it produces high concentration in the urine, so it has a excellent effect for the treatment of urinary tract infection. Pivampicillin-Pivmecillinam was studied about the clinical effects in the 145 patients of urinary tract infection and the following results were obtained. 1. After oral medication, the excellent efficacies of acute pyelonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, ystitis,
gonococcal urethritis and acute epididymitis were 57%, 67%, 68%, 80%, 75% and the efficacies if these
diseases were 91%, 83%, 94%, 86%, 100%, respectively.
2. After parenteral medication, the excellent efficacies of acute pyelonephritis, chronic pyelonephritis, acute epididymitis and prostate abscess were 56%, 56%, 66%, 100% and the efficacies of these , iseases were 94%, 75%, 100%, 100%, respectively.
3. The eliminated rate of bacteria on the culture findings were Staphylococcus aureus 64%, Ent:, ococci 77%, non-enterococci Streptococcus 75%, coagulase (-) Staphylococci 83%, E. coli 89%, Kl?bsiella 75%, Proteus 75%, Morganella 50%, Enterobacter 78%, Serratia 50%, Citrobacter 100%, and N gonorrhea 89%.
4. Mild side effects such as gastrointestinal trouble, dizziness were seen in 4 cases.
We conclude Pivampicillin-Pivmecillinam is one of the primary agents for the treatment of urina tract infection.
